Facilities

Cabins

Five winterized cabins each sleeping 22 on bunks with mattresses and gas heat. One cabin that sleeps 12 on bunks with mattresses and has a wood stove for heat. All have gas cook top stoves (no ovens) and refrigerators.

Adirondack Shelters

For the adventurous, eleven Adirondack shelters with picnic tables are available. The shelters sleep up to 10 people and are heated by reflecting wood burning fireplaces.

Tenting

A large camporee field and numerous campsites are available. This provides plenty of room for weekend camping trips or large events such as camporees, Klondike Derbies or training courses.

Hayden Lodge

Hayden Lodge is available to Scouting and Non – Scouting groups for conferences and meetings. The lodge is equipped with chalkboards and screens for overhead projector slide presentations. A TV and VCR are also available. It has a large fireplace perfect as a backdrop for special presentations or an indoor campfire for closing ceremonies. Hayden has a fully equipped kitchen with refrigeration, gas stoves with ovens, steam table and coffee maker.

Trading Post

Sayre has a fully stocked trading post. You can expect to find everything from candy, soda and camping equipment to handbooks, scouting uniforms and patches.

Campfire Ring

Sayre has a campfire ring that has bleachers capable of seating 100 people. A multi level stage assures everyone a good view of the show.

Canoe Rentals

Canoes with paddles, life jackets and a trailer are available for rent in season.

Local Attractions

Camp Sayre is located in the Blue Hills, which has been described as a jewel in the green necklace of open spaces surrounding Boston. The Blue Hills Reservation encompasses over 7000 acres, providing the largest open space within 35 miles of Boston. More than 125 miles of trails weave through the natural fabric of forests and ponds, hilltops and wetlands. Hikers can count on 22 hills in the Blue Hills chain with Great Blue Hill noted as the highest landmark at 635 feet above sea level. The trails of the Blue Hills lead to the park’s most beautiful areas, inviting you to explore the subtlety and richness of the woodlands. There are a variety of activities available nearby, such as winter skiing at the Blue Hill Ski Area just down the road. The Mass Audubon Society operates the Blue Hills Trailside Museum which features cultural, historical and natural history exhibits with a display of live animals of the Blue Hills. There are many brooks and ponds dotting the reservation, fishing is permitted in most. A state fishing license is required.
